Mother-Daughter Sock Hop this Friday Night

Last year was the 1st Annual Mother-Daughter Sock Hop at Azalea City Church of God. Our gym was turned into a plethora of girls sporting poodle skirts, rolled up jeans, and everything in between. One of our Wednesday Night Girl’s Clubs served up some amazing Coke floats and we had all sorts of “Dime Store” candy available.

My entourage included my Darling Little Girl, my Precious Mama, my Lovely Sister, and my Aunt. Last year’s Sock Hop was truly about making memories for my family. My Aunt was suffering from breast cancer and this was the last outing she had before cancer took her life only a few short weeks later. I will always cherish the night we had. Even though all she could do was sit in the chair as an onlooker, I know her heart was full. Her voice was almost non-existent but with her faint whisper she would tell us, “Go Dance.” She didn’t want us sitting around just because she couldn’t get up there with us. She wanted to enjoy watching us and I am so glad she did.

I don’t think I have ever had so much fun with the women in my family. My daughter had an absolutely wonderful time dancing all around with us and her friends, playing Limbo, eating candy, taking pictures, and trying Coke floats. I quickly learned that my body was no longer a Limbo champion. I could barely get down there like I used to do. All you locals that hung out at the Holiday Skate Palace every Friday night when you were younger know exactly what I am talking about!!

Fabulous Find: Hahira Honeybee Festival

The Hahira Honeybee Festival is here and excitement is in the air! Having grown up in South Georgia, I remember looking forward with anticipation to the Street Dance which was once a part of the festivities. It was always good, clean fun and has provided me with lots of fond memories.

Unfortunately, the dance is no longer part of the festival BUT there is still SO much for families to do. Tomorrow is one of my favorite parts of the festival-- an array of Arts & Crafts booths, food concessions, a 5K run, a bike ride, cloggers, a Kid's Zone, and even a dog show.

Bling Fling will be one of the vendors tomorrow. Bling Fling is an accessory and jewelry business owned and operated by Maranda Douglas. She carries over 100 different styles and all items are $10.00 or less. You can also find "Bling Fling" on Facebook.

Another booth close to my heart will be my Aunt Charlene's booth. She has embroidered bags and is doing something very close to my heart. November will be a year that my Aunt Hazel lost her battle to breast cancer. Aunt Charlene has bags with the Pink Cancer Ribbon embroidered on them and she can add "In Memory Of" and a name of your special lost loved one. She is graciously donating all proceeds from these bags to The American Cancer Society.

Farmer's Furniture 25% Off

Farmer's Furniture at 5 Points will have select items 25% off Saturday, October 8th.

The catch?
You have to make your selections between 8 am and 9 am.

Then, as I understood it, from 9 am to 10 am, select items will be 15 % off and anytime after 10 am, same select items will be 10% off.

There were lots of good deals waiting to be had when I was there today. I saw a beautiful table that I would love to have.

Fabulous Find: Sears Valdosta Clearance

After eating Chinese in the mall tonight, we took a leisurely stroll that landed us some SUPER deals at Sears. I have written before about how awesome their clearance can be. I think people forget that they have kids clothes, more like really cute kids clothes. All clearance items were an additional 50% off the lowest clearance price.

I know it is 5 months until the Father-Daughter Dance but we found a really pretty dress tonight that was originally $48.00 for $9.00!! If we don't use it for the Father-Daughter we will use it for Easter or maybe even both. The coolest part: I've had my eyes on that dress for awhile and it looks like my waiting paid off!

We also got a cute red, white, and blue sundress for $3.00 and it came with the matching dress for a baby doll.

We have several friends that are expecting so we couldn't pass up some adorable Carter's outfits. Some were priced as low as $2.50 for 3 pieces!!

I even saw a cute pair of sandals for 99 cents!!

My husband also found a pair of Levi's for $14.99 which is great since he is 6 foot 5 inches tall!!

There were only 2 problems with this sale, (1) I left a 15% off total purchase coupon in my car and (2) I forgot to ask how long the sale lasts.

* I was trying to load some pictures of the dresses but for some reason they weren't loading correctly.

I scored some great deals at Publix last night. The ad this week is AMAZING!

Some of my most fabulous finds were:
3 bottles of Covergirl Nail Polish (FREE after coupons)
2 packages of Ore Ida Steam Mash Potatoes (99 cents each after coupons)
Ore Ida Hashbrowns (FREE)
5 packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese for $1.25 (25 cents each)
2 containers of Quaker Quick Cook Oatmeal (32 cents each)
2 bottles of All Free and Clear Laundry Detergent for 99 cents each
1 box of Finish Dishwasher Gelpacs for $1.99

Since I couldn't find my coupon for Kraft Homestyle Macaroni and Cheese, I took advantage of the Buy Theirs Get Ours Free deal on the regular Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

I purchased 31 items and my total after coupons was $18.78. That is approximately 60 cents per item.

The current Coupon Policy at Publix Valdosta:

allows you to use (1) store coupon and (1) manufacturer coupon per item
accepts competitor coupons that you can stack (use with) 1 manufacturer coupon BUT you can not use (1) competitor coupon + (1) Publix coupon + (1) manufacturer coupon. You will have to choose between the Publix coupon and the competitor coupon to stack with a manufacturer coupon

Good Food, Great Price: Hibachi Express Valdosta

My husband loves, loves, loves one particular local Japanese restaurant and insists (rightfully so) that all Japanese restaurants aren't the same. So after church yesterday (and after spending a considerable amount of money this weekend eating out) we were looking for something good but reasonably priced for lunch. We decided to check-out Hibachi Express on Ashley Street. I was hoping he would like it...and he did!! YAY!

I have eaten lunch at Hibachi Express one other time with my mom and sister and I knew it was good but today I also realized how affordable it can be for a family on a budget. I ordered the Half order of Hibachi Steak which comes with the rice and vegetables. My husband ordered the Large order of Hibachi Steak. We both ordered drinks. Our total was $14 and some change.

My daughter shared with me and I still couldn't eat all of the Half order. My husband was stuffed yet his plate still looked full. We could have easily purchased one Large Hibachi Steak and an additional order of just vegetables to split between the three of us.

With ball season fast approaching, I am sure we will find this on the dinner menu some nights.

"Isn't it ironic..." I was browsing an article last week in the newest addition of Country Living when I noticed that the beautiful home I was reading about is home to the owners of CSN Stores. I have come to really adore CSN Stores. I love the convenience of having all the stores on one easy-to-access web site.

I have been replacing my old shiny brass hardware, towel racks, etc in my bathroom with Oil Rubbed Bronze items. I did a post a while back about finding the cabinet hardware at a great price. Well, my vanity light was the only thing I needed to complete the Oil Rubbed Bronze look but I wanted to wait until I found it at a price I would love.

When CSN contacting me about doing a product review, I discovered that in addition to the many items they sell, they have a great selection of affordable lighting. Therefore, I selected an Oil Rubbed Bronze Vanity Light and am well pleased with it. You can see it by clicking HERE.

I placed my order and it arrived within just a few days. It was packaged well and all items needed for my wonderful hubby to install it were included along with the instructions...of course, you will need to provide your own drill.

Fabulous Finds on Girls Clothes at Valdosta Mall and Target

I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of shopping with my daughter today. It seems like just yesterday that I was able to pick out anything I wanted for her and now, at only five years old, she has her own taste. We loaded up at Valdosta Mall today. We bought a few things at regular price, but I just can't steer clear of those Clearance signs.

Sears has several racks of Winter clearance with many items short-sleeve items or sets that could easily convert from season to season. We saw many great deals. Some outfits were originally priced at $30.00 and were marked to $1.99!! We didn't get her anything from the clearance but we did get some really cute short/skort sets with shirts 2 for $10.00.

Belk had all their clearance an additional 40% percent off! I love it when they have that sale. A lot of the items were spring and summer. The only reason we didn't rack up here was because many of the outfits were sleeveless and since we were shopping for school and she can't wear sleeveless to school we decided to see what we could find elsewhere.

The Children's Place had racks of clearance that were an additional 50% off! Cute, cute shirts ended up being $3.00 each. Shorts from these racks ended up being about $6.00 each. In addition to the clearance items, shorts and swimwear were all marked $10.00 each.

Old Navy had some shorts on sale for $10.00 each.

JC Penney had 4 to 6x mix and match shirts and shorts $4.99 each.

Sears, JC Penney, and Belk all had adorable dresses from Easter drastically reduced. Most of these would be perfect for Spring/Summer and many of them would have looked adorable with the 2 for $5.00 flip flops at Old Navy.

Target had several racks of clearance. Many of the shirts were $2.98. They also had girls solid tees $4.99 each. I saw several racks on an end cap of clearance shoes but none in her size and the cute $7.00 shoes they have on sale this week didn't feel comfortable to her.

Wal-Mart on Norman Drive in Valdosta has little girl's panties for $1.00 a pack, small, medium, and large. Some packs had 2 pair and some packs had 3 pairs. Large assortment. There were also training bras for $1.00 each. If you were at the girl's panties/bras, the clearance was at the end of the aisle (on an endcap).

No Yolks Egg Noodle Rebate

The Smart Source coupon insert in Sunday's edition of the Valdosta Daily Times has a rebate form for No Yolk Egg Noodles. If you are a Upromise member then you can make this an even greater deal by activating your e-coupons for October.

One of the e-coupons for this month is for 75 cents with purchase of No Yolk Egg Noodles. The 75 cents is not taken off your original price but it is credited to your Upromise account.

If you don't know, Upromise is a free program that allows you to save money for college. You can save for yourself, for someone else, and even use it to pay down student loans. You earn money in your account when you purchase certain products at participating retailers.

If You Are Looking For Sock Hop Shoes. . .

For my local friends, if you are going to the sock hop and are looking for ked-like shoes but don't want to pay Ked prices because you are like me and won't wear them again...I found white ked-like shoes in leather-like material at Super Dollar for $6.00.

Super Dollar in Valdosta is located on Highway 41 across the street from The Gold Plate Restaurant, like you are heading to Lake Park.

The shoes are in the back right corner of the store.

On another note:

I forget that this store is there which means that I also forget they have some cute shirts but you have to be willing to look through the racks to find them. Currently several clearance racks of clothes. Also, sometimes they have some really nice hanging pictures for $10.00. If any of you have been in my work office the picture over my computer came from there.

Dollar General Summer Clearance 90% Off

I stopped in Dollar General on Madison Highway today looking for a solid color shirt for a Mother-Daughter Sock Hop tomorrow night and found some unexpected fabulous finds.

Summer Clearance was marked to 90% off!!!!!

I was SO excited because hula hoops were included in the sale AND I have been hoping to find some on sale for something I am planning for my daughter's birthday in January (planning ahead).

For $6.37 I got the following:

12 Hula Hoops @ 20 cents each
10 Sidewalk Chalks in Totes with 15 pieces in each tote @ 15 cents each
1 Sturdy Horse Shoe Set @ 25 cents
1 Pair of Pink Shoes with Black Polka Dots @ $1.80 (for Sock Hop) :-)

That is an AMAZING deal if I may say so myself. The lowest price I had seen before this on hula hoops was $1.00 each and I got 12 of them for $2.40. GO ME, GO ME!!!!!

They had many other summer items to choose from like smaller wake boards, bubbles with large wands, large fuzzy coloring posters, etc, etc. Worth checking out since they were all items that could be stashed in a closet until next summer.

99 Expired Coupons!!!

Did you read that correctly and can you believe it?!?!

I just sorted through my coupons and had to remove 99 from my coupon file. WHEW!! Imagine the savings if I had been able to use all those.

Did you know that when your coupons expire their final destination does not have to be the nearest trash can? You can send them to military personnel and their families to use.

Overseas Coupon Program is a program available via the web that makes it possible for you to "adopt" a base to send your expired coupons to. Most base commissaries will allow the coupons to be used for about 2 months after their expiration date.

I think this is a wonderful way to do a little something for the people who do something for us daily.

10 for $10.00-Don't be Deceived

10 for $10.00!

Super! But is that the best deal?

That's what I hope this simple lesson will show you.

I was browsing the Publix ad and saw that Campbell's Soup is going to be 10 for $10.00. Now, that IS a great deal; however, if you continue looking through the ad you will discover on the back page that Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup and Campbell's Tomato Soup are $1.99 for a 4 Pack--that's apprx. 50 cents per can.

I realize that you may not want just Chicken Noodle or Tomato but if you do plan to buy even 2 Chicken Noodle or Tomato Soups it would just make sense to go ahead and buy the 4 pack for $1.99 instead of 2 cans for $2.00.

Another very good example is from the sales ad that is just ending, this one is to Publix's advantage. :-)

Several stores have Banquet Frozen Dinners 10 for $10.00 and with some super coupons I had that was going to be a great deal. But Publix had them for 87 cents--much better deal!!

Hope this little lesson helps. I know if you are just starting out with coupons this can seem overwhelming but once you get used to "buying by the ads" you will start remembering prices from other stores and easily spot a good deal when you see it.

And I will be taking advantage of the 10 for $10.00 for some Campbell's Vegetarian Vegetable Soup since it isn't sold in the 4 pack.

Someone very nicely informed me tonight that I needed to update my site and they are right on target. In all honesty, I haven't updated the site for a few reasons. One, I haven't been shopping the deals and well, I guess I figured no one was really interested in reading about my "fabulous finds." Considering my friend was not the first person to tell me that I need to update the site, I will resume posting tomorrow.

I know, I know..how could I be guilty of such a thing???

Well, as we all know everyone is cutting costs somewhere and since we had such a huge stockpile of groceries around here (Thank God) we have been eating from our stockpile; therefore, grocery shopping and other shopping has been on the back burner. I mean, really--I've got to use those 5 bottles of ketchup sometime!!

I have also been working hard over the past few months on another really exciting website adventure. However, it seems that everytime I think I am getting close to "making it happen," something will not cooperate. I am praying that if it is God's timing for this other concept then for Him to please help me to have the wisdom to complete the task.

I'm not ready to share the new site with anyone but I would be humbled if you would agree with me in prayer about God's plan.

Again, I will resume posting tomorrow starting fresh with the new Publix ad.

These are ALL STORE COUPONS which means you can combine them with a manufacturer coupon for even greater savings. I don't think any of these items are on sale this week BUT they don't expire until 9/30/09. There is also an entry form in the booklet for the Heinz Toss 4 Cash.
UPDATE: There are several of the little red coupon machines on the frozen aisle with manufacturer coupons that match with some of these store coupons=FREE or ALMOST FREE!!

Second, as always there are small coupon booklets on the turn rack at the right side of the lobby where the sales papers are located. These usually have STORE coupons AND manufacturer coupons in them. Again, remember if it is a STORE COUPON it is smart to match it with a manufacturer coupon.

Third, I also picked-up a coupon booklet from DOVE this week. It is located on an end-cap (at the end of an aisle). There is a display of Dove products on the end-cap and in the middle is a booklet with several coupons in it. The display is somewhat across from the Floral department. I think these are all manufacturer coupons but check to see.

One other note, this wasn't a coupon booklet but I did see a coupon pad on the Greeting Card aisle for Buy One Card Get One Free.

Fabulous Find: Toothpaste at Walgreen's

I told a co-worker that my life has officially been reduced to 30-minute increments, referring to my daughter's first year of school and adjusting to the daily routine of: wake-up, shower, get dressed, get child dressed, get child to school at specific time (30 minute increment before work), go to work, get off, (another 30 minute increment before school dismissal), pick child up--get the picture.

SO during one of my 30-minute increments this morning I stopped by Walgreens to pick-up one of those FREE (after coupon) glucose monitors. I don't need it but it was FREE so I'm sure I will find someone who needs it.

Well, you know I spent that 30 minutes wisely. Meaning I made sure to scan the clearance aisles and yes, I found an excellent deal!

Regular Colgate toothpaste was marked down to 50 cents a box and there were at least 15 boxes. YES I counted BUT to my credit they were in stacks of 5!! No, I didn't have a coupon for them and No, I didn't purchase any. However, this happens to be one of the brands my mother uses so you know as soon as I got to work I let her know.

AND she didn't buy them all so if you want some get on over to Walgreen's on Gornto and walk directly to the back aisle and you should find them.

Did I mention that I also made it to Office Max and Wal-Mart during that little increment of time??

My cousin, my sister, and I did a quick run through the clearance sections this morning at Target. There was an endcap with clearance OFF and Cutter brand insect repellents. After coupon I paid 93 cents for a can of OFF.

That was excellent, but ya know what would have been even better?

The 2 cans of Cutter Insect Repellent that were maked down to $1.74 each IF I could have used the (2) $2.00 coupons I had. Unfortunately, the Valdosta Target will not take the coupon for the value of the item if the coupon is more. :-(

Oh well, at least I scored a good deal on the OFF! And if you live in the South, you know how those mosquitos can be!!

Harvey's is Claxton Select All Natural Family Packs and Winn-Dixie's is Sanderson Farms split chicken breast, limit 3.

Looks like you will need your store card for each store. AND if you have the Reward card for Harvey's make sure you register your child's school before you shop at the Harvey's website under the Hometown Educational Rewards link. I just did a post about the great deal on Lysol Wipes at Dollar General and that is a great deal, but you should always compare weekly ads if you are serious about saving cash...and this is an example of why....

While at Dollar General picking up the Lysol Wipes, naturally I browsed the store and the ad to determine if there were any other fabulous finds I didn't want to miss. Well, I ALMOST purchased the Pop Tarts that were $1.50 a box and the Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks that were 2/$4.00 BUT I remembered the Publix ad for this week.....Pop Tarts and Fruit Snacks are BOGO.

That would make the Pop Tarts $1.19 a box and the fruit snacks $1.36 PLUS any coupons that you may have. Yes, I realize that is a 31 cent difference on the Pop Tarts and 64 cents a box difference on the fruit snacks BUT if you buy several or when you add in your coupons the difference does add up to savings. Granted, if I didn't plan to go to Publix and I needed either of these items I would have purchased them before I would have wasted gas just to go to the other side of town but I plan to go to Publix for weekly shopping so I will hold off on those items until I can get to Publix and save my 31 cents and my 64 cents!! LOL!!!

Dollar General has a GREAT deal on Lysol Wipes until August 9th. You get 2 containers for $2.50, but you need to make sure you select the one that has the 2 containers packaged together. It has (1) container of Lysol Citrus Wipes and (1) container of Lysol Dual Action Wipes. The outside of the package says "Buy One Get One Free."

I also had a coupon for $1.00 off 2 packages of Lysol wipes so I ended up paying $4.00 for both packages or $1.00 for each container!! That is a great deal and if you are like me it is probably a requested item for your child's classroom.

If you are a local reader and go looking for this great deal: I went to the Dollar General on Bemiss next to Harvey's (right as you turn off Ashley onto Bemiss). The special package with the 2 containers was NOT located with the single containers. It was at the end of an aisle on a display.

I racked up on shoes for my child yesterday just in time for school at my local Kohl's and wanted to pass the information along to all my savings friends.

Kraft Rebate-My Solution

Within a week I have met the necessary requirements to participate in the Kraft rebate/Publix gift card promotion up to 3 times. I am super excited about this!! I decided to make the great deal on gas cards and this rebate work together to my advantage and I don’t see anything on the rebate instructions that would prohibit me from doing it this way.

On my 1st trip I purchased (1) $50 gas card, the required 4 different Kraft products, and a few other items. I spent $78.13 and saved $30.94, not bad considering I got $10 off the gas card, had coupons for all the Kraft items I purchased and will get a $10 Publix card back in the mail.

On my 2nd trip, well let’s just say my hubby thought we should take our life savings and purchase all the gift cards they had. Just kidding but we did purchase 5 more $50 gift cards and the 4 required Kraft products. Yes, I had coupons for some of those also. And with our business hubby will go through those gas cards in a week so that was a REALLY good deal for us. Spent $218.95, saved $52.79, will receive another $10 Publix card in the mail.

On my final trip, I took advantage of the many great BOGO deals going on this week that could be used for my stockpile pantry like cereal, taco kits, and some general grocery items we needed. Of course, I also had to get the 4 different Kraft products. I had $8.00 in coupons and saved an additional $27.70 on advertised sales for a total savings of $35.70. I spent $62.90 and of course that qualified me for the 3rd Publix gift card.

So we spent quite a bit, but we saved $119.43, we have lots of Kraft products for almost free (by using coupons), and we will be getting $30 in Publix gift cards, not to mention the 20% we saved on gas at the pump.

Word of advice: Publix in Valdosta has a nifty display near the dairy items with the rebate form and lots of participating Kraft products. Smart marketing on Publix and Kraft's part but not a smart choice for you. These are all larger and more expensive items from the list. You can get smaller items as long as they are 2 oz or larger on the regular grocery aisle.

Another Reason to Match Sales to Coupons

When you get some really good coupons there seems to be an urge to want to use them right away. However, if the coupons are for items that you don’t necessarily need yet then try to stick it out until an item goes on sale.

A few weeks ago I had 5 coupons for $1.00 off Huggies Bath and Body wash. I was already planning to purchase some baby bath products to make gift baskets for several ladies I know that are expecting. Well….I waited it out and wouldn’t you know…one Thursday morning I was looking over the new Publix ad and Huggies Bath and Body products were Buy One Get One Free!

So let me break down the savings for you:

Regular Price for 1 = $3.29
BOGO= 2 for $3.29 or 1st scanned $1.65 and 2nd scanned $1.64
Total before coupons = $8.23
Minus (5) $1.00 coupons = $3.23 plus tax = $3.81

$3.81 for 5 Huggies Bath and Body Wash

That’s like Buying One and Getting FOUR FREE!!

I had similar experiences this week with Hunt’s Ketchup for 48 cents, Peter Pan Peanut Butter for 98 cents, and Mentos gum for 49 cents!!

Unless you have coupons expiring soon or you really need an item then try to wait for a really good sale so you can get that same exciting feeling I get every time I discover a fabulous find.

I am getting ready to change out some things in my bathroom and the cabinet hardware is one of the things I am SOOOO ready to change. If you don't know, those nifty little knobs can become expensive, especially when the ones I have looked at are between $2.50 and $3.50 EACH and I need NINE of them. I know, I know...that's $31.50 on the high-end not really that expensive but you know me. I am one determined girl who just about refuses to pay full price for anything if I can come up with a legitimate way to get it cheaper without ripping someone else off.

So tell me, how does 97 cents for ALL NINE knobs sound to you???

No kidding, that is exactly what I paid and here is how.

I found some simple but very-similiar-to-what-I-was-looking-for-knobs on Amazon.com for $1.15 each totaling $10.35 plus $5.62 for shipping and handling, for a grand total of $15.97. I recently redeemed 135 of my Swagbucks for (3) $5 Amazon.com e-gift cards, which didn't cost me a dime. So I applied those 3 gift cards to my $15.97 total which left me with a total of 97 cents!!!

With so many great promotions going on at Publix this week, I am finding it necessary to do separate posts for each....

In the sales ad you will find this really GREAT store coupon for $10 off the purchase of a $50 Gas Card, BP or Shell. The coupon is good through July 15th.

Considering it takes about $45 to fill my tank and I like to get Shell gas, this is a deal that I am definitely not going to miss out on. My husband and I set aside a budgeted amount for fuel each week so we will just take that amount and head to Publix this week.

There were 17 cards on the rack at my local Publix today but I asked one of the managers and she told me that they had ordered plenty. Also, you can buy more than one card. She told me that one guy purchased 20!!! Catch is: You will need a coupon for each card you purchase so make sure you grab a handful of sales ads.

(I bet Publix won't have to throw away any ads at the end of this week.)

At the Valdosta Pubix gift cards are located on a large display rack directly in front of customer service but in line with the registers. If you found the clearance table that we talked about earlier this week then just look directly behind it and you will see the tall display rack of gift cards.

$10 Publix Gift Card with Kraft Purchases

Kraft and Publix have an awesome promotion going on. When you purchase a minimum of $50 from Publix, including a minimum of any 4 different participating Kraft products by 8/9/09, you can receive a $10 Publix gift card. You can do this up to 3 times.

But don't head out the door just yet. This promotion starts 7/13/09 (Monday). Between now and then you need to go to the Kraft site and complete 2 very important steps. One is required to get the rebate and the other well, it just makes sense!

First step is to print the rebate form by clicking HERE.

The second and just as important step is (with rebate form in hand) find coupons on the site for the participating products. I found them for 10 of the products that I know I will use. You view available coupons by clicking HERE, once on the page you will see the coupon link in the box to your right.
UPDATE: I think Kraft got wise and removed these coupons from their site for now; however, you may still be able to find several coupons via coupons.com or couponmom.com.

I am a weekly Publix shopper so I am hoping since there are 4 weeks in this promotion that I will be able to do this all 3 times. Hey, $30 in FREE gift cards sounds pretty good to me!!

My FREE Glidden Paint Arrived

A neat little package awaited me at my carport door today: My FREE quart of Glidden Paint from The Glidden National Paint Giveaway. That was quick!!

Of course I have already opened the can just to see how beautiful the Deepest Aqua color was and now I am ready to paint, paint, paint. The can states that one quart will cover 300-400 square feet. I have been wanting to do an accent wall in my bedroom so this may be the perfect time.

Clearance at Publix Valdosta: Spongebob, Dora, Serving Pieaces, Hair Care...

If you are a Valdosta resident and a Spongebob fan then head on over to Publix where you can rack-up on some super Spongebob deals. They had Spongebob books, watches, cups, notepads, stickers, and magnets all at reduced prices. I don't remember all the prices but I do remember that the books were 6 for $10.00, that is $1.66 each. You don't have to buy all 6 to get the price.

There were a few Dora the Explorer items also on the clearance table.

They also had some really nice pitchers and glasses on clearance. I got a pretty blue pitcher for $2.50 and four glasses (acrylic material, not glass) for $1.00 each. I am thinking coke floats or lemonade for summer!!

There was also a rack of higher-end hair care products.

The clearance section at the Publix in Valdosta is directly in front of the customer service counter and is next to the first register. If you have any coupons that match up with the clearance items you can use them. Great time to check out your hair care product coupons.

I want to be able to post printable coupon match-ups weekly with the Publix BOGO's; however, I have found a really great blog that I have mentioned before, Fiddledeedee. She does an excellent job of matching printable internet coupons to the weekly Publix ad.

I found several coupons for this week's ad using her site. For instance, after using the coupons that I printed I will pay: 84 cents for Ritz crackers, 49 cents for Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (an Essentials product not BOGO), and profit 36-37 cents on Kraft BBQ Sauce. These are all assuming I buy only one of each BOGO item.

Fabulous Find: Jonny's Diaz "More Beautiful You"

If you have listened to Christian radio any this week then it is highly likely that you have heard the new song by Jonny Diaz. It is titled "More Beautiful You" and it is absolutely an on-target song and proof the God does use the "foolish things to confound the wise."

Not that Jonny Diaz is foolish, but that as he states on his website (jonnydiaz.com), and I quote:

"Need more proof that God is funny. Well, He chose me, a 26 year-old guy who admittedly knows nothing about females, to write a song that is impacting young (and not so young) girls all across the country. It’s crazy… and pretty funny. But, if it’s God’s plan, I’m ready to roll with it."

God does do the unexplainable when He wants something to be done.

This song is so true and so needed in the corrupt society that we live in that is constantly bombarding girls (and guys) with images of what they should look like or what the person they date should look like. God did mold and make each one of us. We were wonderfully made and therefore... there can never be a more beautiful you.

I have been "out of the loop" since we went to the beach. It seems like every time we go on a trip I get behind in blogging. I will do my best to get back in the game this week with listing BOGO's and other finds.

Several samples that I requested via afreebieempire.com arrived in the mail this past week. I love this site because the owner really searches out the "free" samples. I signed-up for the newsletter and will typically receive between one and three e-mails a day with each e-mail listing the freebies that are available. I have checked out numerous freebie sites and have found this one to be the one that works best for me.

AWESOME Coupon Finds and Sales to go with them

O.K. If you have NEVER taken my advice before, you may want to this time. With the help of some great savings friends, the web, and some great store sales I have saved a bundle this week.

Krista informed me earlier this week of some AWESOME Kraft coupons on Couponmom.com. I printed several of these with no problem and used them at Target and Publix with no problem. You will have to view each page of the coupons and select the sqaure next to "clip" and then when you print all the coupons will print at once.

Here is how I used them and how I plan to use some others:

Target:
Kraft Dressing: $1.99 minus (1) $1.00 coupon = 99 cents
Kraft Mayo: $1.99 minus (1) $1.00 coupon= 99 cents
*Kraft BBQ sauce is 99 cents at Target and they will not let you use the $1.00 coupon, however you can use it at Publix this week.

Publix:
Kraft BBQ Sauce: BOGO this week--If you buy 2 and use the $1.00 off coupon you will only pay 69 cents total. That's 34 cents each!!
Kraft Cream Cheese Spread: 4 for $5.00 or $1.25 each minus $1.00 coupon (off 2)=$1.50 for 2
Breakstone's Sour Cream: 4 for $5.00 or $1.25 each minus $1.00 coupon (off 2) = $1.50 for 2
Kraft American Cheese Singles: BOGO this week--If you buy 2 and use the $1.00 off coupon you will pay $1.59 for 2. That's 79 cents each!!
A1 Steak Sauce: BOGO this week. There is also a $1.00 coupon for this on the couponmom.com site.

There are probably others, these are just the ones I clipped that my family will use. At these prices, you may be able to buy some for others too. Krista saved over $60 and $15 of the savings were just from the coupons she clipped from the couponmom.com site.

ANOTHER Great Deal at PUBLIX on PEPSI 8 packs

Allison shared this one with me.

Publix has Pepsi 8 packs BOGO this week, making them $1.50 an 8 pack. THEN, for every 2 you purchase there is an additional $1.00 off coupon on the boxes. That makes them 2 for $2.00. When I went earlier today there was no limit to how many you could buy. I did have to take a few coupons off other packs since they weren't on the packs I wanted but trust me, I worked there 9.5 years NO ONE will say anything to you for that.

I will still do a separate post with all the Publix BOGO's listed so it will make it easier to see what coupons to look for. Remember, at my local Publix (Valdosta, GA) I can purchase just one of a BOGO and receive it for half price. We don't have to purchase two in order to get the deal.

More FREE sample information

I shared in a previous post that I get many of my coupons from requesting FREE samples online. In that post I told you that one of my favorite sites is A Freebie Empire. I like the site because the owner does the homework for me. I don't have to go to a bunch of other sample sites because I receive the A Freebie Empire Newsletter everyday. There are a wide variety of samples made readily available to me this way. And as I said before, more times than not once a sample arrives there is usually a coupon or coupons in the package also.

For instance, this week I received a FREE Schick Intuition razor and cartridge in the mail, along with a coupon for $2.00 off my next Intuition purchase. Pretty cool considering the price of those razors!

Another great place to get FREE samples is on the Wal-Mart website. However, you can save yourself the trouble just by signing up for the A Freebie Empire newsletter since many of the Wal-Mart samples are included in the newsletter. I do occassionally check the Wal-Mart site since there are also other offers like trial offers, etc.

I am looking into another sample site but I will have to do a little more research on it before I can explain it to you.

One more thing: I usually don't sign-up for a sample if it is asking for my phone number OR as bad as this may sound, I will sometimes enter the ever-popular 555-555-5555 number. Sometimes it won't take that number so I change the first set of 5's to my area code--usually works...don't judge me please...

Fabulous Finds at Valdosta Mall

My daughter and I did some mommy and me shopping today and we had a blast!! We were on the prowl for some shorts for her long legs, bless her heart. We ended up in Sears and in addition to finding shorts 2 for $10, we also found a lot of clearance. She fell in love with this really cute sundress that was marked down to $10.

And of course a dress isn't a dress unless you have the shoes to match, right ladies? Well, if you know my daughter then you know she has a true addiction to flip flops (and tank tops) so we headed to Old Navy and took advantage of the 2 for $5 deal on flip flops. She got a black pair by mom's choosing and then a blue pair by her choosing, after all her 2 favorite colors right now are blue and black so that worked out well for her.

In addition to all this fun, we got her ears pierced at Piercing Pagoda. They were offering free ear piercing with the purchase of the earrings. She picked out cute blue studs, I told her that they wouldn't match everything but you know when a girl has her mind set, she has it set so blue it was.

This was a wonderful afternoon for me and not just because we found some fabulous finds but because God allowed me to spend quality time with my daughter. In church yesterday, one mother said something like this, "I am looking today at my only child and thinking that I could not have done what God did. I hope that I will never take that for granted.

Fabulous Find: Dishwasher Cleaning Tips

I got a new dishwasher last week from Sears (praise Jesus) and there was a packet with coupons, samples, etc. in the box. One set of coupons was from Electrasol, attached to the coupons were these tips that you may find helpful, and I quote:

Run your kitchen's hot-water tap before starting the dishwasher to make sure the first water fill in your machine is hot.

Generally, larger and dirtier items are best on the bottom rack. Cups, glasses, and less soiled items should be put on the top rack.

Position your dishes and utensils with the heavily soiled side facing the source of the water spray.

Put your flatware in the special flatware basket and use the silverware separtors (if available) to avoid nestling your items so that water can rinse all surfaces.

Walgreens Easy Saver Discontinued :-(

Yes, it's true the Walgreens Easy Saver rebate program has been discontinued. I walked into my local Walgreen's this week and was heading for my normal first destination, the sales ad rack and wouldn't you know--a sign stating "Walgreens Easy Saver has been discontinued!" How sad; however, I did hear that they were revamping the ways in which customers can receive deals...maybe something similiar to CVS Extra Bucks?? Now that would be nice!

We will have to wait and see.

FREE KFC Grilled Chicken Meal

Update: KFC will honor your coupon but due to the overwhelming response you will have to trade it for a raincheck or purchase the meal and receive a free drink.

If you haven't heard, Kentucky Fried Chicken now has grilled chicken and you can get a FREE meal. You will have to visit Oprah.com to print the coupon. At the top of her page you will see a bar titled "Hot Topics," then click on KFC Coupon to print yours. You can print 4 coupons per computer.

You have to print the coupon by TONIGHT at 11:59 pm CDT; however, the coupon is good from 5/5/09 to 5/19/09, not valid on Mother's Day 5/10/09.

Are we REALLY thankful enough?

Do you ever stop to think just how blessed you are? I make a point to thank my husband for being our provider, to thank people like the lady that cleans our church, the person at a checkout working on a holiday so I can enjoy a meal, and to be thankful to God for all that he does for me and my family. Do I always get it right, by no means, point is that I try and so do many of you.

However, some of us will complain about the least little thing and not even really realize how we sound. My house is roughly 1400 square feet, it has a carport, and a little over 1/2 an acre, in a rather decent subdivision. Now, I realize that to some 1400 square feet is small and to others it is big--matter of opinion and current circumstances I assume.

There are things in my home that need to be fixed or that I would like to upgrade. Sometimes I get frustrated because my yard is not nearly as clean and landscaped as I would like. Some days I want to take my used SUV and just dump it along the side of the road somewhere because I don't want my husband to have to pay another repair bill. Sometimes, like a few days ago when a rack in my closet broke, I just wanted to throw out all the clothes that fell on the floor and start over......then I come to reality and realize just how blessed I am.

Yesterday as I was cleaning our office I was watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. If you have ever watched the show then you know that obviously they will bring you to tears and once again they did not fail to bring out that emotion in me. As a matter of fact, "tears" is a mild word. I was literally sobbing as I watched the story of the family about to receive their makeover.

They were a family of 7 living in a 600 square foot house. Many, many things in their home were broken. Children were sleeping wherever they could. The parents could not shut their bedroom door because it was broken off the hinges. BUT the video they submitted was so moving that I could see exactly why Ty Pennington and his crew chose this family.

They were a family overflowing with love for each other as well as their community. The dad was a coach and the mom was going to school for her master's degree in education. They said that they felt like they were put on this earth to serve others. *me:bawling* Each night they sat, all 7 of them, around this table that had to be shoved into the corner. Their dresser drawers were broken, clothes stuffed into a closet, floor rotting--you get the picture.

Do you know what that did to me? To know that there are people right here in my community that must be living that way or those who don't even have a home! What right do I have to complain about the stuff piled up in my back yard or the weeds growing where I want a nice little flower bed??

Like that e-mail goes:
Thank God that I have a sink full of dishes...that means we had food to eat.
Thank God for that pile of laundry....we have clothes to wear.
Thank God for those little hand prints on the wall...my daughter is happy and healthy.
......and all the other daily nuisances that are really signs of the blessings God has given us.

Sitting there yesterday crying my eyes out, I asked God to please show me how to help others in need. That has always been a passion of mine, especially troubled teens. So join me and ask God to show you what you can do. I am sure he will answer and show us just what we can do to make a difference in someones life.

What do all these have in common? Thought you'd never ask, they are all fabulous finds that I found this week.

Kohl's had many racks of winter clearance this week, some 80 to 90% off! My friend Amy is moving to Montana :-( and I am heading to the mountains where snow showers are expected :-), so this was a great sale for us or it is a great time to stock-up for next year. I found a 3/4 sleeve shirt for $2.80!! AND I got to spend some quality time with a great friend before she leaves.

Sears also had several racks of women's clothing for $9.99 and 7.99 AND take an additional 40% off the clearance price...got a really cute pair of pants in there for $6. I hope I will have time to swing back by there before I leave as they had some really cute sweaters.

Ross had some super deals on Easter dresses for little girls. I got the most adorable dress for my daughter for $9.90. Then, I found matching shoes at Payless. Speaking of Payless, ALWAYS ask if they have the size you are looking for in the back. They did not have Madison's size but the sales clerk checked the other Payless in town and they had them. She gave me a $3 coupon to go to the other store. The shoes were already on sale for $12.99 then I was able to use the coupon for $3 off!!

My friend Krista of Princess to Princess Hairbows & More took the dress and matched it to ribbon to create an adorable hairbow--the finishing touch to Madison's outfit!!

$10 Kohl's Card Arrived!!

While we were away having an awesome time at Winterfest, my Kohl's gift card arrived in the mail. YAY!! I was going to take a picture of the card, but I forgot before I used it and the sales clerk kept it. Yes, it was "burning a hole in my pocket" and I have already used it.

I was in need of a new black belt and I found one I liked on clearance for $8.80!!

Winterfest 2009

Have you even been in an arena with 20,000+ teenagers worshipping God? That is what I did this weekend.

I had the honor of attending Winterfest, a youth conference in Tennessee, with our church's youth group. This is my 3rd time attending Winterfest and I have to tell you that each year I come back truly amazed at the ways in which God blesses these kids.

Winterfest is a conglomeration of music artists, drama and dance teams, ministers, and other individuals coming together for one purpose: Seeing young people's lives transformed for the glory of God. This years' theme was 212^ (degrees) because:

At 211 degrees water is HOT...

At 212 degrees water BOILS...

which produces steam which can power a train..

Just ONE degree!!!

How much more can God do, if we step it up just ONE degree??!!??

Jentzen Franklin, Tommy Bates, Reggie Dabbs, Eddie James, Excalibur, and Casting Crowns (just to name a few) were all in the house!! Talk about exciting!

Jentzen Franklin preached the first night and made sure to get the audiences attention from the start. He talked about the Spirit of Python, accompanying him on the stage was an actual python! He explained how a python literally sucks the life out of his prey. He related this to several people that society considers as "having it all." Kurt Cobain was one example, he had a group come out that resembled Nirvana and then he showed Kurt Cobain sitting on his couch and how he eventually turned to suicide to end his pain. Jentzen even read Cobain's suicide letter. This was just one of many scenes he created to present his point.

Eddie James and Excalibur performed the 2nd night. Eddie James is an anointed man of God with a love for teens that is hard to match. He and his ministry have taken in teens from all walks of life. He has over 40 teens living in his homes. They have all become saved, they have walked away from drugs, alcohol, homosexuality, prostitution, etc and are serving God. They are some of the most talented kids I have ever seen.

Every speaker, musician, and drama team member did a phenomenal job. After Tommy Bates spoke on Saturday night, kids were praying everywhere. Our kids were standing on the arm rests to reach other kids in our group just to be able to pray for them. Remember, this was stadium seating, people don't just go around standing on arm rests--that was God.

There is always a service on Sunday; however, our youth pastor chooses to do a service with just our kids at our cabin before we leave to come home. This always adds an even more personal level to an already amazing weekend. As a part of our service, he opened the floor to anyone that wanted to give a testimony of the weekend. One-by-one several students and adults stood to tell what God had done for them this weekend.

I won't disclose the specifics of what some of these kids are going through, but I will tell you this: Kids (teens) go through SO much more than we can imagine. We have kids in our group that their parents don't go to church and they have to beg on a weekly basis just to be able to come on Wednesday nights, kids whose parents curse God with no regard to their children, kids who seem like they have it ALL together yet they contemplate suicide, kids who think that they are not beautiful or good enough because they don't feel like they fit the image that society tells them they should, and the list goes on and on.

This experience changes their lives and our lives. The first thing my wonderful, God-fearing husband did when we got home last night was to sit down on the kitchen floor and hold our daughter. He had her look into his eyes and he told her, "YOU are Daddy's princess. You are beautiful and I LOVE YOU."

That is what kids need--PURE LOVE!! They just need to be loved through every mistake, every hard time and to know that there parents believe in them. They need to be inspired to reach that extra degree but NOT rebuked and held to a standard of perfection that is unreasonable.

Fabulous Find of the Week

I am getting ready to go out of town, but I thought I would do a simple post just telling you one of my fabulous finds this week.

I was in Walgreen's getting pictures developed since they were on sale 50 for $5, or 10 cents each--that is a fabulous find in itself. Anyhow, as I was checking out I noticed they had Valentine's Candy marked down which we don't need considering both of our heart-shaped boxes are on top of our fridge. However, I decided to still peek in the basket and I was glad I did. There were some really cute pencils and two cute plastic heart baskets.

The pencils were 3 cents each and the baskets were 19 cents each!!

The pencils were originally 39 cents each and the baskets were originally $1.50 each. A small transaction but a great price.

Thrift Stores, Goodwill, Consignment Shops

I don't know about you but some folks just have an issue with going to Goodwill or anywhere similar. Not me, nope, nada--my motto is: "When I become rich I pray that I will still be humble enough to realize that there is nothing wrong with these places."

For instance, yesterday I stopped at one of my favorite little shops which I am reluctant to share the name with all my local friends. It is one of those best kept secret-type things, except my savings buddy, Krista, we both love this place. OK, I will tell you but you gotta leave me some good deals when you go: Repeat Boutique.

I love this place because all money goes to the Pregnancy Support Center. I find this to be a good way to support a charity without the commitment of a monthly contribution. I am a huge book reader and that is my main reason for frequent visits to Repeat Boutique. Yesterday, I found bin of "Love Inspired" Inspirational Romance Novels for 25 cents each. I bought all 17 of them for $4.25, one of these books in stores is between $5.50 and $6.50!!
These are all in excellent condition. BTW, these are good, clean romance novels--nothing yuck about them.

Magazines at Repeat Boutique are 1o cents each and many times, yesterday in fact, I found a March 2009 Martha Stewart magazine. Also, several of the current month's magazines that I find also have coupons in them that I can use for my grocery savings.

NOW, if you are reading this and thinking I am some lunatic for all my savings antics--well maybe you are right but this is something I enjoy. Sure I enjoy the occasional shopping sprees where I buy at full-price BUT why would I pay $4.99 for a magazine when I can get it for 10 cents??!!??

Yes, I did mention Goodwill and this is why. Goodwill, at least the one in Valdosta, gets Target and Old Navy mark-downs. They may not tell you that if you ask but it is quite obvious if you just take a few minutes and browse the store. I know it can smell like a dusty warehouse, but if you find a nice set of new Target lamps still in the box, and they just happen to match your decor perfectly--hello--I think we can find a way to rid them of the warehouse smell. AND--from a friend's recent experience at a wholesale market, which is where most companies get their NEW merchandise that they mark-up considerably for you to buy, those wholesale markets just so happen to be dusty warehouses with gorgeous findings yet, when you purchase it at the store you don't seem to find any of that dust or smell...hmmm...just a thought.

So, am I one of those people that hits every thrift store and consignment shop at least once a week? No, but more power to those who do. I am just a girl that loves to find fabulous deals and these are places that I think you can do that. I realize that not everything in these stores is a good deal. You need to "know your stuff" before you go. I don't buy something for a quarter just because it is a quarter. I think you get the point.

$467.43 in clothing for ONLY $37.10

Don't panic and run to the vision store just yet, you are reading this correctly. Monday my Pastor's brother came to the office (I work part-time at my church) and he had a slew of very nice dress shirts from JC Penney's and at a price I LOVE: $2.97 each.

After work my sister, Anna joined me for one of the funniest shopping trips in a VERY long time. For those of you who don't know, my husband is 6'5" and skinny compare that to my 5 feet even and you can really get a laugh. Anywhoo...we have the hardest time finding dress shirts for him but JC Penney's has the best selection of "Tall" shirts so I was really hoping we would find a few of those $2.97 deals and find them, we did.

We found 4 very nice Van Huesen Wrinkle Free shirts, each originally priced at $50.00; however, they were all $2.97 each. My sister found him a long sleeve Dri-Fit shirt which will come in handy for all the softball we play at church, originally priced $30.00 marked down to $2.97 and we found a Braves Player Tee originally $25.00, you guessed it $2.97.

After stocking-up my hubby, we decided to walk the perimeter of the store on the prowl for little green square signs with these fabulous numbers in bright yellow: $2.97, $3.97, and $4.97.

My sister found a beautiful halter dress originally marked $60.00 on the $4.97 rack. This is added in my total because I bought it for her since she was so sweet to join me and she shared her Beijing Cafe lunch with me (the best Chinese in Valdosta, BTW).

Continuing on, I got an Arizona brand hoodie sweater (very nice), not for the original price of $42.00 but yep, $2.97 and two Ana Brand shirts, priced from $36.00 each to the low, low price of $2.97 each.

Tax and all: $37.10

Moral of the story: Obviously, JC Penney in Valdosta is having a GREAT sale!! Make it easy on yourself and walk the perimeter of the store searching for those signs AND do it with a relative or close friend. Saving was great but spending time and having fun with a loved one was the most fabulous part!!

Here in Title Town, we have this store that my husband just loves: Harbor Freight Tools. I happen to like this store, too. Can you guess why??

They have really good sales, they offer in-store coupons, and when you sign-up for their weekly newsletter they send all these really great coupons, and as my husband found out, when you click on a coupon in the newsletter you may get lucky and receive an additional coupon.

I said all that to relate this cute story to you.

Today, with coupons in tow, my husband took a trip to Harbor Freight and I joined him. He took his time checking out all the great deals and put a few things in the shopping cart that were needed/wanted for his Jeep project. When he was ready to check-out, he politely told the cashier that he had coupons. When one coupon didn't scan correctly, he patiently waited on someone to come and correct the problem. I can not remember the exact amount he saved. I do know he saved $17.00 on ONE item.

This is the part I really enjoyed: When he was loading all his fabulous finds into the truck he said, "Look at all the money I saved."
I said, " I know, I'm not complaining," to which he replied, "I know, I'm just trying to show you that I can be a saver too and use my coupons." :o)

Shoes, Shoes, and More Shoes

It seems like only weeks ago that we bought our daughter several pairs of shoes; however, we were on the search again today for shoes for her growing feet. We always seem to have good luck at Sears so off we went, and lucky we were.

Sears was having a "Buy One Get One half-off sale," which included sale and clearance items. We found one pair of Adidas tennis shoes and a pair of light-up Princess shoes. The Addidas were marked $9.99 and the Princess shoes were marked $4.99. The Princess shoes ended up being $2.49 since they were included with the buy one, get one half off deal.

$12.48 plus tax for 2 pairs of shoes, not bad if you ask me!!

My husband also found some really nice New Balance shoes for $35, but he just got new shoes on the last shoe shopping adventure, so he refrained this time.

We also paid a visit to Payless. They are also having a Buy One Get One half off sale. We didn't buy anything because they didn't have her size. I may have to check back in a few days.

$10 Kohl's Gift Card on the Way

I have earned enough points from MyPoints to be able to trade 1,450 of my points for a $10 Kohl's gift card. It should arrive within 2-3 weeks. YAY!!

My Points is a web site that allows you to earn points for surveys, purchases, etc. You can trade your points for gift cards. I have earned over 1900 points in only a few months. The point opportunities, called MyPoints BonusMail arrive in my e-mail inbox and I simply read the email or fill out the survey...only takes a few minutes.

You can also earn points by clicking through the MyPoints web site when you make purchases at certain places. For instance, we needed to order some things from Oriental Trading so I checked MyPoints to see if they were one of the vendors listed. They were so I just clicked the Oriental Trading button from the MyPoints page and I was awarded points based on the dollar amount I spent. Sounded great to me considering I was already needing to place an order with Oriental Trading.

One other way to earn points is to refer people. Once they sign-up, you will receive points when they do. So if you think you are interested in signing-up, please e-mail me before you do and I will send you a referral. I have 4 left for this month.

Publix: Viva Italia Sale

If you love some Italian food as much as I do then you need to make a special effort to get to Publix this week for their Viva Italia Sale!

I can't cover all the details right now, but numerous items are on sale and many are BOGO. For all my ACCOG friends/family, if you are cooking spaghetti for our spaghetti fundraiser you will find all the items you need.

Ragu Pasta Sauce and Ronzoni noodles are both BOGO. Lean Ground Beef is $3.99 per pound. You may be able to get that a little cheaper, but that is LEAN ground beef and it can be pricier.

Hopefully, I can cover more later. Right now I have to get back to workin'.

Crockpot Sausage Recipe

A few weeks ago I did a post about Menu Planning and I mentioned a sausage recipe. Justine over at Justines Grocery Brags sent me a comment about the recipe so I thought I would share it here with you all.

Ingredients

2 green peppers
1 red pepper
1 1/2 lg. yellow onions
1 can tomato paste
4 bay leaves
2 T. basil
4 cloves garlic, chopped
2 T. parsley
1 T. oregano
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 can tomatoes (reserve juice)
2 1/2 pounds sausage

In Crockpot, layer 1/2 onion, then pepper, then sausage, then the remaining onion and peppers.

Place garlic, bay leaves, and basil on top. Then, place tomotoes on top. Mix reserved juice and tomato paste and pour on top.

Set crockpot to LOW for 6 hours.

At last hour, pour parsley, oregano, and salt and pepper on top.

Suggest serving over rice.

Title Town Milk Deal

NEARLY FREE at CVS

Madagascar 2 came out on video this week so just about all the stores in town have some sort of deal going on for this movie. I found CVS to have the best deal for me. If you purchase $20 in specific Proctor & Gamble products you will receive an instant $15.00 off of Madagascar 2, totaling $4.99 for the movie!! YOU WILL NEED A CVS CARD, it is FREE if you don't have one and you can get it before they ring you up. I would only advise doing this deal IF you need or will use the products listed, not just to get a DVD for $4.99--I will use all the products and they were needed in my home.

If you don't have a CVS ad, you can view it HERE. The products are listed on page 16 of the online ad and the last page if you have a printed ad. You can use coupons too if you have the products listed. Just give them to the cashier after everything is rung up. If you are watching them scan your products, the sale prices won't appear until the cashier hits total. I always add my items up before I get to the register so I will have a general idea of the total.

I bought the Charmin (16 big rolls) for $9.99, Bounty (8 pk) for $6.99, and Crest Pro-Health for $3.96. If you have a little one, Pampers is part of the sell and you probably have some coupons for them. I also had $5 in extra bucks, so don't forget those if you have them. My total for all the products AND the DVD was $22.40--a savings of $28.43 according to my receipt which would be based on CVS non-sale prices.

FREE at Publix

I picked-up Publix's Advantage Buy flier as I entered the store today and happily discovered a coupon for $4.00 off any 2 Aleve, Bayer (and a few others), this was a STORE coupon which means I can also use a MANUFACTURER coupon in conjunction with the store coupon, per the customer service manager. I knew that was good news because I had a manufacturer coupon for $1.00 off. However, I discovered EVEN BETTER news when I reached the pain medicine aisle: 24 count Aleve was on sale for $2.99 and each box had $1.00 manufacturer coupons attached. I decided to use those instead of mine, so let's add this up.

$2.99 (x) 2 boxes = $5.98 minus $4.00 STORE coupon = $1.98 minus (2) $1.00 Manufacturer coupons (1 for each box) = 2 cents profit or FREE!!!

* At my local Publix, the boxes with coupons attached were on the make-up/soap aisle in a white bin.**

This is also very important for another reason that I am sure my coupon buddies will appreciate: I had one of those Winn-Dixie coupons for $10 off of $50 that you can use at Publix so I was able to add the before coupon price ($5.98) to my total in trying to obtain my $50.

NOTE: When you use a coupon like this one, give it to the cashier BEFORE you give them your other coupons. This eliminates the possibility of them telling you that you don't have $50 or whatever the amount may be.

I walked out of Publix with $72.02 of groceries for ONLY $39.53. I saved $34.29!!

A few months ago I was on a sweepstakes kick. You can read more about it HERE. I actually won something! Now, it wasn't huge but I DID WIN. I was playing a Chevron game. I only played it a few times compared to the daily plays I did on the other sweepstakes. Friday I opened my mailbox and found an envelope from Chevron. I felt a card from the outside of the envelope and I thought it was one of those credit card offers that they send you that has a replicated credit card, NOPE, it was a $5.00 gas card!!!!

Now, personally I thought that was SO COOL!! Yes, they gave away 84,700 of these cards, but hey at least I was ONE of those 84,700. Maybe eventually I will win one of those new washer and dryers that come in a variety of really awesome colors, or maid service for a year, or a few million bucks..you never know unless you play. For now, I am just exuberant about my $5 gift card. THANKS CHEVRON!!

The NEW CVS opens Sunday. I am SO excited!! However, that may hinder you from getting some of the extra bucks as supplies were limited. I did go Friday and get the American Greeting Cards: Buy 3, Get $3 in Extra Bucks. This is a great deal considering American Greetings has a wide selection of $.99 cards.

When I checked out I was given a coupon for $2 off $10 at the new store. You may be able to snag one of those if you can make it by there today.

Reminder: Pepsi 8 packs were $2.00 each. (I can't remember the limit).

Faith Friday (on Saturday)

Have you ever seen the e-mail that talks about the number of books in the bible and how Psalm 118:8 is the center of the bible? I never get tired of getting that email because it reminds me of how awesome God is and how important it is to be in the center of HIS will.

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about how much faith or trust we will put into the people around us (our friends) and even the closest ones let us down many times. This isn't because they are bad people or intentionally want to harm or hurt us (our feelings). I think it comes down to the center of God's word, this is what Psalm 118:8 says, "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man."

If we are all honest with ourselves, we have been on both sides of the fence when it comes to confidence in others--we have been hurt and we have hurt--we have lost confidence in others and they have sadly lost it in us. For myself, I want to learn to put more confidence in my most fabulous find, Jesus Christ. I am praying that Jesus will help me to encourage others to put more trust in HIM than in me or others around them.

...Maybe this makes sense. I just know how easy it is to go to our friends and ask for advice, because we trust them, we love them and they love us. However, sometimes the best advice I think we can give is to point them to Jesus in love, to earnestly pray for them, and to keep their prayer requests confidential. Don't let their prayer request turn into an opportunity for gossip just by sharing it with one person then that person shares it with another person and before you know it, everyone knows and then... OOPS! there goes that confidence in man going out the window. See what I mean?? It all starts SO small and can quickly grow into something huge.

(Nothing or no one in mind when I am making this post. No one has hurt me or my feelings. These are just the thoughts I have been having lately and since this is my blog, I thought I would share them.)

So..How much did my weekly menu planning pay-off?

In my previous post I told you how I do my weekly menu planning. Now I will tell you a little about my trip and how I did.

My first stop was at my beloved Publix.

This list will include my menu planning items AND additional items that were on sale and needed in my home. Remember that at my local Publix I can purchase ONE of a BOGO item and it will ring half the price. I don't have to purchase 2 items to get the BOGO deal.

My total savings with vendor coupons, and advertised special savings was $16.21! With tax and all, I only spent $14.55! I LOVE when I SAVE more than I SPEND.

My second stop was at a local, hometown grocery store: Mr B's IGA.

My main reason for going here was because they had the cheapest price on good quality boneless, skinless chicken breast at $1.88 pound. ( I missed out on the $1.99 per pound at Publix last week.) Thanks to the man at Mr. B's that told me that their chicken breasts will go on sale Wednesday for $.99 per pound, too bad I need it before then.

I decided to get all my meat for the week at Mr. B's. I did substitute the pork chops for the orginally planned pork tenderloin.

My meat purchases were:

1 package bacon ON SALE for .$98

1 package sausage $4.99 (not mixed with chicken and other by products--paid a little extra)

1 package boneless sirloin pork chops $4.66

1 family pack ground beef $5.54 (split into 4 packages when I got home)

1 package chicken breast $3.89 (much better than the $8 to $10 I was going to have to spend elsewhere)

I also bought my tomatoes, potatoes, freezer bags, and tomato paste, and cheese while I was here. My total for everything was $33.47. Not bad when I consider what I saved on the meat. I could have gotten some of the other items cheaper elsewhere but time was of the essence and as the saying goes, "Time is money."

Last stop for the day: CVS

CVS had the cheapest deal on Pepsi this week at 5/$10 or $2.00 per 8 pack. Since I had not spent nearly my weekly budget, I went ahead and got 3-8 packs. I needed hairspray and Tres Semme was on sale for $2.00. I also needed chicken broth for one of the recipes. Swanson was BOGO and I had a coupon for $.25 off. My total was $10.67.

I received coupond for $5 off a $15 purchase, $3.00 off any 2 hand or body lotions, and $1.00 off Hershey Bliss, and $1.00 off 2 Nivea Lip items.

I only need to spend $14.00 more dollars on Pepsi or Frito Lay products this week to receive $10 Extra Bucks. I may go back and spend at least $15 so I can use the coupon for $5.00 off--good way to stock up on drinks AND maybe some chips for the Super Bowl.

I still needed rice, toilet paper, and body wash but I had only spent $60.35 so far, not bad for a week's worth of food and a few extras--if you ask me.

Menu Planning: How it's done.

I have always found that weekly menu planning helps me to stay within my budget. I haven't been too disciplined with that lately but I decided to start back this week and it paid off.

When I plan my weekly menu, I write the days of the week across the top of the paper. I only do Monday thru Thursday because our weekends our very hectic. Then, I consider what items I have in the pantry and freezer to determine what I will cook for each day.

My menu for this week is as follows:

Monday: Chicken & Asparagus Roll-Ups, Mashed Potatoes
Tuesday: Crockpot Sausage, Rice, and Corn
Wednesday: Biscuit and Beef Cups
Thursday: Apricot Pork Tenderloin, Spinach (for hubby), Lima Beans, and Mac N Cheese

I have several of the items needed to make each recipe in the pantry or freezer. For instance, the crockpot sausage calls for canned tomatoes, bell peppers, and onions. The Chicken recipe needs onions and the biscuit and beef cups require peppers and onions. I don't have fresh onions and peppers but I do have a large bag of frozen stir-fry onions and peppers. The bag is large enough to be used for all recipes and I get it for apprx. $1.00 at Save-A-Lot.

Also, I know that I have a coupon for rice, canned biscuits, and Green Giant boxed veggies (spinach) which happens to be 10/$10 at Publix this week.

Each person's menu plan will be different. Having your coupons organized and shopping by the sales really makes the difference in how effective this practice will be for you.
